Melges 17 Fleet Puts On A Show In Charleston On Day One Of 2006 Easter Regatta

14 April 2006

14 APRIL 2006 ? Over 60 Scows have gathered in Charleston, South Carolina for the 2006 Easter Regatta and the M17 is one of three doses of high performance, one design racing classes ripping up and down the course.

With historic Ft. Sumter and the charming city front homes as a backdrop, it was an unbelievable site as epic conditions greeted all three fleets. The super sleek E Scow class and the fantastic MC Scow are also in out in full force.

The Melges 17 however stood out as this is the first time it is racing as a fleet in Charleston, leaving spectators as well as the other fleets captivated. These hot 17-foot racers were on fire. The upwind beat was amazing and the downwind run put smiles on everyone's faces. The participants have to be focused, especially if they want to maintain consistency because that's what it takes to win!

There were three different race winners today - Race 1 was Bill Wiggins of South Carolina, Race 2 was won by Blaine Unicume from Colorado and Race 3 was won by Michigan native, Kirk Donaldson and his son Ian!

Stay tuned to this site as the racing continues tomorrow, Saturday April 15! More race details will be posted as they become available.
