As if Iggy Labanauskas' triumph as National Champion wasn't enough, he also scooped up the 2007 National Ranking Champion Title too. He topped the charts with a whopping 462 points ?fifty points ahead of second place ranked Mary Anne Ward with 412 points.

In addition to the title, Iggy walked away with the highly coveted Larry Brand Memorial Ranking Series Trophy. After a very heart-felt and sincere acknowledgment by none other than long-time Melges 17 racer ? Larry's son Keith, the trophy was presented to Iggy by Regatta Chair Bob Wynkoop. "My dad would be so proud to know that this trophy was established in his honor," said Brand. Once presented, Labanauskas expressed his own endearing words, "I can't begin to tell you all how much winning this trophy really means to me. If I would have left here not winning the Nationals, yet winning this I would have been just as happy."

Coming in second place overall was Mary Anne Ward, who also very graciously accepted third place overall at Nationals. "I just have to thank Peter, Andy, Sam and Jamie that have sailed with me throughout the year. I know you all have put up with a lot, but I have learned so much. Thank you so much for sticking with me." Prior to the regatta Ward was seated in fourth place. A fantastic performance at Crystal Lake paid off big for Mary Anne and her M&M Sailing Team at Nationals and in the rankings!

Brian McMurray and his lovely wife Deb claimed third overall in the ranking with 208 points, a slim four points out of second. Practically still newly weds, the McMurray's are a shining example of how teamwork exists not only off the water but also on. They had a spectacular Nationals too with their toughest finish being on Saturday during the fifth race. Again, they found themselves behind Ward in fourth a shy four points back.

Despite the end of the road for the 2007 National Ranking, the season is still rolling with the Lake Geneva Fall Regatta on September 22-23 and then on to the famous Halloween Regatta at the Augusta Sailing Club on October 13-14. Both of these regattas are set to be incredible!

2008 is already getting set for more intense competition and racing. Stay tuned to WWW.MELGES17.COM as announcements will be posted as more information becomes available.
