Melges 17 Fleet All Set For Crystal Lake Nationals

23 August 2007

24 AUGUST 2007 ? The Melges 17 National Championship hosted by Crystal Lake Yacht Club in Frankfort, Michigan kicked off today with twenty three teams fully registered to compete in the third Nationals event for the class.

The two day event is sponsored by MELGES PERFORMANCE SAILBOATS, NORTH SAILS, QUANTUM SAILS, WEST MARINE, HARKEN, LATIS YACHTING SOLUTIONS and CASS COMMUNICATIONS.. BELL'S BEER pleasantly surprised the fleet with a last minute sponsorship. They'll be supplying a complimentary fleet load of it's Oberon Ale on Saturday night for consumption!

Despite the overcast skies and damp conditions today that included periodic bouts of steady rain, some teams ventured out onto beautiful, misty Crystal Lke for practice. But nevermind the wet stuff, the fleet is upbeat and excited as weather conditions for Saturday and Sunday are expected to improve dramatically. "Besides some of the best Melges 17 racing seen yet, we have many great things planned for the fleet this weekend. It is really going to be a lot of fun," said Bob Wynkoop, Regatta Chair. "When this event is finished, those that were unable to attend will have missed a really great time."

Saturday's forecast calls for tempatures in the mid- to upper 70s with partly cloudy skies for two fun-filled days of fast Melges 17 racing. Racing begins tomorrow with the first signal set for 10:30 a.m. Stay tuned to www.melges17.com as full reports and results will be posted as they are available.
