From Brad and Jandy Sprouse - Wow… long winter up north. We are currently just a little under 200 inches of snow for the season and we are all screaming for summer! The good news is that the ice is beginning to break up on the lake and we are feeling pretty confident that it will all be gone by the end of August.

We are busy planning what we believe will be the best attended and most competitive M17 Nationals ever. We are scheduling three days of racing this year and hope to complete between 12 and 15 races during the regatta. Sponsorships are coming in, the banquet is planned and the band has been booked for Saturday night. Bring your boats and dancing shoes, we’ll supply the blue water, the wind and the dance floor. We are gearing up for tons of fun for everyone and lots of good competitive racing.

Bring the whole family as it really is a great place to hang out! We are only 3 miles from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and 1 mile from the quaint little resort town of Glen Arbor and Lake Michigan. Leelanau County now has over 20 vineyards for those of you who might squeeze in a tasting room or two. Golfing, tennis, and fine dinning, oh yes… back to sailing.

Remember that the WMYA is hosting their big regatta at Torch Lake (TLYCC) this summer. It is only a few weeks before the M17 Nationals here at Glen Lake. The goods news is that this year you do not have to be a WMYA club member to participate, everyone is welcome. This is another great opportunity to race your M17 in the crystal clear blue waters of northern Michigan and get ready for similar sailing conditions at the Nationals in only a few short weeks. When you are finished racing at the WMYA regatta, just drive (45 miles) your boat down to the Glen Lake Yacht Club where we will store your boat until Nationals at no charge.

Here’s the deal, you sailors mark your calendars now to come and sail with us on beautiful Glen Lake. While you are at it, pencil in the WMYA regatta as well. Jandy, Jim, Jennifer and I will take care of the rest. We are already hard at work getting the ice off the lake and trust me, the GLYC has the best deck, overlooking one of the most beautiful lakes you have ever sailed on.

See you soon & sail fast!
