KEN WRUK LEADS 2008 MELGES 17 NATIONAL RANKING

15 August 2008

As the International Melges 17 Class Association looks ahead to yet another successful 30+ U.S. National Championship at the Lake Geneva Yacht Club on September 24-26, Ken Wruk from Lake Geneva, Wisc. officially leads the 2008 National Ranking charge going into the event.

Sitting pretty in second place, only a mere 7 points out is Mary Anne Ward from Cocoa Beach, Fla., and in third is Bill Wiggins from York, S.C. 15 points out. Ward and Wiggins are old rivals, but this year has been a really good year for Wruk. A string of successes started at the first of the year at Midwinters, then Charleston but there are others having equal success as the 2008 events schedule unfolds.

So far, only ten teams have qualified to win the ranking. The reward — they will be the recipient of the prestigious Larry Brand Trophy!

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY...
A team must compete in three Melges 17 regattas AND Nationals. Points are awarded based on where a team places in the results with additional participation bonus points on top. Participation bonus points are calculated based on the participation level of that regatta x 3.
